Instagram Grid Planner

Use this Instagram planner tool to curate your profile grid! I built this grid preview to solve my own biggest headache: making sure my automotive shoots flow perfectly from one post to the next without having to mess around with clunky Photoshop templates. Just drop your photos in, find your perfect layout, and get back to shooting.

Why I built this tool (and why I use it every day)

If you're like me, you spend hours - sometimes days - perfecting your craft and making sure that every photoshoot you do yields perfect results. You’ve scouted the location, waited for the perfect weather, and spent late nights editing your shots in Lightroom.

But then comes the part I used to hate: uploading to Instagram.

There’s nothing worse than posting a photo set that you're really proud of only to realise it looks terrible next to your last post on the Instagram grid. Maybe the colours clash, or the composition feels crowded. I got tired of 'test posting' and quickly deleting images just to see how they looked. I wanted a way to plan and build a perfect Instagram grid before posting a single thing.

Taking the Guesswork Out of the 3x3

I built this tool because I needed a simple, fast way to see the "big picture." It’s not about filters or fancy edits; it’s about the flow.

When I’m planning my next few posts, I’m looking for a few specific things:

  • Balance: If I have a bright, airy shot of a vintage 911, I probably don’t want it sitting right next to a dark, moody shot of a modern supercar. This tool lets me move my photos around until they feel right.

  • Perspective: I like to mix it up. I’ll use the drag-and-drop to make sure I’m not stacking three "front-end" shots on top of each other.

  • Pacing: Sometimes a grid needs a "reset" shot - something simple like a steering wheel or a wheel nut—to give the viewer’s eyes a break between big, cinematic scenes.

Why Visual Consistency Drives Growth

Instagram's algorithm prioritises engagement, but your profile’s layout drives "follow-back" rates. When a user lands on your page, they look for:

  • Colour story: A consistent tone or filter that makes the profile feel intentional.

  • Compositional rhythm: Alternating between detailed close-ups and wide-angle shots to create "breathing room" in the 3x3 layout.

  • Thematic clarity: A clear niche or aesthetic that tells the viewer exactly what to expect from your future content.

Streamlining Your Creative Workflow

Visualising your grid ahead of time allows for better content batching and smoother transitions between seasonal campaigns. Planning your layout ensures you never "double-post" similar angles and helps you identify gaps in your content strategy before they become apparent on your public profile.
